AADB would like to welcome it's newest Board Member: Valerie Luther

The AADB Board of Directors would like to welcome Valerie Luther to the board. She lives in Richmond, VA and is currently the Consumer Outreach Specialist for the Virginia Project for Children and Young Adults with Deaf-Blindness (VA Deaf-Blind Project) at the Partnership for People with Disabilities at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. She also works on the Technical Assistance to AmeriCorp Programs grant, where she helps state AmeriCorp programs to work with local disability organizations to make their communities a more inclusive place to live, play and work. She helped to create a mentoring program for the Center for Self-Advocacy Leadership grant, where they trained young adults with disabilities to become leaders in their own lives. She was one of the planners from other state deaf-blind projects that organized the teen program at the Kentucky Symposium this past summer.

She is one of the founding members and is currently a Member at Large for Virginia Advocate United Leading Together (VAULT), which was started in 2011 as a result of many disability organizations coming together and finding common grounds to work on and advocate for changes for the better for people with disabilities in Virginia at the state and local level.

She is a long-time member of AADB since 1990. She is the co-moderator for the DB-Fishbowl ListServ.  Valerie is very active in many organizations: The Hearing Loss Association of Greater Richmond, Richmond Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Virginia, and the Virginia Association of the Deafblind (VADB), as their Treasurer. She is a 2004 graduate of Virginia’s Partners in Policymaking.

Welcome Aboard!
